Darwin

Many of you have been wondering what we have been up to in Darwin. If you don’t want to be bored silly, stop reading now.
The short version is: Regular maintenance on Toboggan and preparing for Indonesia
The long version is:
Paint the green stripe around the coaming;
5 more coats of varnish on the toe rail;
Paint inside of sail locker, anchor locker and cockpit lockers;
Search for new boat insurance - current broker got out of offshore business. Applications are grueling. You wouldn’t believe how much time this has taken;.
Replace ignition box on propane stove. Removed stove from gimbals and shine up stainless steel inside and out;
Review charts and purchase required charts for Indonesia;
Repair wind generator;
MANY bus trips to town to provision for Indonesia - groceries and maintenance supplies
Apply for Indonesia social visa;
Buy lots of trinkets to trade for fruits and vegetables in Indonesia;
Etc., etc., etc.
We did take a couple days off to have fun. One day we went to the museum where there was an interesting exhibit on Cyclone Tracey that devastated Darwin on Christmas Day 1974. Much of Darwin is less than 34 years old because of the cyclone. It is a well kept city of about 60,000 people.
The weather in Darwin is gorgeous. It has been hot and sunny every day since we arrived 4 weeks ago and will apparently stay that way until the wet season arrives in November. We have enjoyed our time in Australia but are very much looking forward to continuing our adventures in South East Asia.
We are leaving July 26th for Indonesia. We are going as part of a rally supported by Indonesia tourism. It will take care of a lot of the red tape and bribes that are rampant in Indonesia as well as offer safety in numbers. Indonesia is made up of 17,000 islands, many different cultures, religions and languages. We expect to have lots of great pictures and stories to tell but the internet is harder to find than on the North Queensland Coast of Australia but we will update the blog when we can.
We will keep our location updated on the website through our SSB radio. Just click on “Where are we?” on the front page of our website and follow the instructions to find our current position.
