Crocodiles and Lorikeets

This picture shows Steve standing in the square in Cairns, as a continuous stream of a Lorikeets flew through. It was like that Alfred Hitchcock movie “The Birds”. Thousands of lorikeets flew through the square REALLY fast in a continuous stream for 5 minutes, just a couple feet off the ground, squawking their little rainbow heads off and then all of a sudden they were gone. Cool!
Our picture of the crocodile would be similar to this (ie. Two seconds too late and nothing to show for it). We took a ride down the creek off Cairns harbour through the mangroves at low tide. We were specifically looking for crocodiles and we were not disappointed. Just a little way up the creek, there lying in the mud, sunning himself (or herself) was a 5 foot crocodile. He was really well camouflaged since he was the same colour as the mud and we didn’t see him until we were about 50 feet away and he decided that was close enough and slipped into the water in a split second. I thought it might have been a juvenile crocodile because it wasn’t anywhere near as big as the ones we saw at Steve Irwin’s zoo but we asked some locals who said that is a typical size crocodile in the area. Even so, we will continue to keep our arms and legs inside the dinghy.
