Christmas in Bundaberg
We have really enjoyed our stay in Bundaberg. We have been moored in the Burnett River right downtown. It is a perfect spot because we are close to all the amenities but on the river it is so peaceful, it feels like we are
miles from no where. We take a short dinghy ride to the Midtown Marina to go ashore. Bundaberg has about 50,000 people but still maintains a very laid back, small town attitude. Everyone is very friendly. There are many lovely older buildings in this quaint downtown. Even the bats that fly over the town at night only add to its abundant charm. We caught a little bit of the Christmas spirit this year since the streets and the stores were decorated in the usual Christmas sparkles. We even attended the Santa Claus Parade but it wasn‘t the same in 30 degree heat. On Christmas day, we attended a pot luck dinner with about 12 other cruisers. It was a fabulous feast.
We had planned to leave on the 27th to continue down towards Brisbane and explore the Great Sandy Straits but a low has moved in and currently there are 30 knot winds from the South East which is of course the direction we are headed. We will simply have to wait it out for 3 or 4 days before we continue on our adventure.
