to the land of OZ

Our last day on the Pacific Ocean ended, just like our first day began. Without wind. The drone of the motor in our ears. When we entered onto the great Pacific Ocean from the Gulf of Panama almost 6 months ago, the water was calm. It had a near mirror finish to it. As we left the Pacific Ocean for Hervey Bay, Australia the Pacific ocean was almost as calm. In between those 6 months we experience winds from calms and gales.
If we were to really think about it, the distance to cross the Pacific was daunting. It’s a good thing neither of us had ever contemplated how big this Ocean was or we might never have left Panama. Six months ago when we exited from the Panama canal, it seemed as if there was no turning back. The currents and wind would make turning around difficult.

We had an easy sail from New Caledonia to Australia. It took us 6 ½ days. It was a slow sail, it took almost a day, longer than we had expected.
We came over from Noumea with a rally, and spent the 1st week in Australia enjoying the events that were put on by the rally. The sail over was just like any passage, except on day one and two we saw lots of other sailboats. Once the fleet spread apart, we didn’t see another boat until we entered Hervey Bay. Now that all ended yesterday.
Now what do we do? What to do, what to do? We have been in GO GO GO mode for a year now. Here were are waiting out our 1st cyclone season. Other parts of our trip were timed so we entered an area just after cylone season or left it just before.
We have a list of boat work, but otherwise, time on our hands. What to do, what to do?
Over the next week, we make our plans do our haul out, repaint the bottom, make repairs, order new toys, and sail within Australia.

Steve and Nancy,
Do you think the supermarkets in OZ will fill you with inspiration for poetry like the one in Tahiti did for me?!
Have a silly billy, fabuloso Christmas and remember to give some of your Christmas cake to Toboggan.
Eat, feast and be merry out there. Miss you both stacks.
Love from sunny South Africa,
Anita (Sans Souci)
