Nov 14
With Titusville finally behind us we moseyed just a few hours down Indian River to Cocoa to pick up our lift raft. As it turned out, the raft was pooched and not economical to have recertified. A new one has been ordered for $3100 and will be available here for us tomorrow.

After some frustration, skinned knuckles, and $1200 we have things put back together just time for the scheduled launch. We are in fact ready 3 hours early so find enough time for showers before we leave the marina to anchor.

Nov 8 to 12
We are working full days doing preventive maintenance while we sit here in the yard.
Meanwhile, we have enjoyed the many trips for cappuccino and West Marine in the morning. Transportation can be a challenge when we are trying to get work done, and some stores are miles apart. The bus here doesn’t operate on Friday or the weekend. One day we spent $60 on cab rides to Ace hardware and Sears. One of our nice neighbours here in the yard gave Nancy a lift to ACE hardware one afternoon.
We must have the boat ready for Monday. It must be Monday since the marina won’t put our boat in the water on the weekend, and on Tuesday the travel-lift operator goes to the hospital heart surgery. In comparison our challenges are so small.
We have tried to take best advantage of this haul out and do any additional below waterline maintenance we could think of. We added an additional coat of bottom paint and replace a zinc anode. Our motivation has gone down somewhat from when we were in Hamilton. We just couldn’t seem to do any 15 hour days.
We planned to recertify our life raft here in Florida given the availability of services and the low cost of products compared with Canada. One eager guy from an inspection company drove to Titusville to pick it up from us. We will pick it up from them when we visit Cocoa, just a few hours down river.
Tim Ramm from Port Charlotte, Florida dropped by for a visit. Tim was on his way to Melbourne and stayed over on our boat in the yard for one night.
Some Canadian registered boats are stored in the yard here. One is owned by nice couple from Hope BC. They are here working on a boat they bought in Florida. Wayne and Marilyn Gentry hope to clean up their 51 foot boat and be in the Bahamas by late January.

Sure is hot in Florida.
Steve has been monitoring a drip from the dripless stuffing box for a few days and after several attempts at adjusting it only made it worse. We decided to take care of it now, rather than wait until it was a BIG problem. We hauled out, ordered a new dripless packing gland and await its delivery. Nancy made modifications to the boat to get the new part to fit properly.
While out of the water we took the opportunity to install a new depth sounder transducer. Our existing depth sounder was giving intermittent readings over the last month.
Nov 6
We arrived in Titusville today. While dingying ashore we saw manatees. These large sea creatures resemble lazy floating cows with flipper tales. Floating above the surface is a portion of a body and some flippers. When they dive you can see the tails.
We took advantage of the many services that Titusville offers within walking distance from shore. Nancy found cappuccino at a local bakery / café.

Hi Steve and Nancy,
I have seen your updates and hope things are going better for you. You are not missing any good weather in Ontario. Everything is cold and foggy! My family will be travelling to the Mayan Riveria at Christmas, Wendy and Darryl are going to Turks for two weeks in December. Work is going well enough, it is nice to be making what we were before Superpages ended. It has taken two years to get back to that level, now Nancy it is a matter of necessity to learn how to be frugal- Pat and I want to help pay for the kids education but also want to travel and see the world before it is too late! Really miss you, but I love your website!, it allows us to see the world with you. Take care, stay safe, talk soon Norma
