We started the day off with a beautiful sun rise off the coast of Georgia then we arrived at the entrance to St. Mary’s Inlet, between Georgia and Florida about 9:00 am and made our way in to Fernandina Beach and anchored next to Blossom and Lap Cat from Hamilton. After tidying up a bit, we all headed into town for a walk and the internet café.

We got up early because we wanted to make the 7:00 bridge out of Wampoo Creek because we were going offshore today all the way to Fernandino Beach, Florida (30 hours). Although Stephen had downloaded the weather the night before, we always double check in the morning to make sure nothing changed. He noticed on the computer the time was off by an hour. We totally forgot about daylight savings time and so we woke up at 4:30 instead of 5:30 and we had to wait another hour for the bridge to open. Since we had lashed the dinghy to the deck and done all our offshore preparations the night before, there was nothing left to do but go back to bed.
An hour later, we pulled up anchor and topped up on diesel fuel and headed out. It was a beautiful sunny day with light winds so we had to motor sail but it was fabulous ride right through the night.

We decided to move our boat from Charleston Harbour because East winds were forecasted which meant they were going to blow in off the ocean with a clear line into the harbour creating waves 3-4 feet at our anchorage. We went 2 miles west up Wampoo Creek and anchored in a protected area behind a small island. We wanted to stay on the boat for a couple hours to make sure we were secure so I thought it was a good time to try to bake some bread. Seems like a lot of work when you can just dinghy into town to buy some but eventually I will need to be a pro when we go off shore for a couple weeks or more. Miraculously, I produced to perfect loaves (well, a little charred on the bottom but close enough). In the afternoon, we were invited over to Anju (another sailboat anchored in the creek) for tea. We met Phil & Christine Rees who sailed Anju from Cardiff, Whales a few years ago and are headed down to the Bahamas as well.
